All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** John Stephens Massingill Funeral services for John Stephens Massingill were held Sunday, 2 p.m., Sept. 2, 1962, at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Pleasant Hill, La., under the direction of Drewett Funeral Home of Mansfield, La. Mr. Massingill died Sept. 1, in Carthage, Texas, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. D. M. Stovall, after a lengthy illness. He was 75 years of age. He was born in West Carroll Parish, but had lived in the Pleasant Hill Community since he was nine years old. He was married to the former Onie Nelson, who preceded him in death by ten months. Rev. J. C. Salley, his pastor, was the officiating minister. Others assisting were Rev. J. Bryant Young of Carthage, Tex., Rev. J. L. Stovall of Lake Charles, and Mr. Grady Coates of Longview. Active pallbearers were Alton Collins, Jack Dykes, Malvin Mary, Judge Middleton, Dave Moody, and W. A. Loftin. Present Deacons of the church were honorary pallbearers. Survivors include one son, Fred Massingill of Dallas; two daughters, Mrs. Ada Stovall of Carthage, Texas, Mrs. Mary Lanagan of Longview; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
