According to Sheriff Brumley, Mike McComic, 11, and his little brother, Timothy, were fishing off a boathouse dock around noon, when the incident occurred. The elder child went to the house for a drink of water, and when he returned, he couldn't locate his brother. He ran back home to tell his mother, and by that time, other residents of the subdivision were responding to the calls for help from the family. Gerald Wayne Hammer, a resident, heard the commotion, and ran to the water's edge. He dove into the 10' deep water, recovered the tiny body, and began artificial respiration until Jenkin's Ambulance Service arrived. The child was pronounced dead on arrival at Fraser Hospital North. Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, May 29, in the Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Bobby Moore, and the Rev. Ron Ellis. Burial will be in the Fenders Cemetery, under the direction of the Warren Meadows Funeral Home. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tommie McComic of Many; two brothers, Mike McComic, and Tony McComic, both of Many; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Labert Leggett of Converse; and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Claude McComic of Many.
