Richard (Bo) McNeal Jr., were held at the District 12 Association Building in Many, on Thursday, Sept. 16, at 2 p.m. Officiating at the services were Rev. J. B. Maxie, Rev. Clois Rodgers, Rev. D. S. Jones, Rev. L. C. Williams, Bro. Robert Johnson, Rev. Harrison Fields Sr., and Rev. D. Edmonson. Pallbearers were brothers C. C. Johnson, J. C. McClanahan, W. P. Williams, Robert Johnson, Mack Larry Connolly, and Marvin Foster. Honorary pallbearers were Cornell Davis, Donny Davis, Vincent Nolan, and Eric Woolridge. The Rev. McNeal died on Thursday, Sept. 9, at 11:40 a.m., at Sabine Medical Center of Many. He was born on Sept. 9, 1906, at Gandy, to Richard and Susan McNeal. He married Lovie I. Williams on June 8, 1932, and to this union, five children were born, of which four survived. After being widowed, he married Irean Maxie, who predeceased him. No children were born of this union. Converted at an early age, Rev. McNeal joined the Evergreen Baptist Church in Gandy. In 1943, he moved to Florien, and united with the Bright Star Baptist Church, where he pastored for 27 years. He served as vice president, and then became president of the 12th District Association in Many, where he served with love and understanding. Rev. McNeal will be remembered as a loving and caring father; a faithful member of the community; and a warm and sympathetic friend. Survivors include one son; one stepson; two daughters, Vernon McNea (Carolyn) of Houston, Tex., Raymond Davis of Santa Monica, Calif., Ruth Davis (Johnny) of Leesville, Gloria Carr (L. C.) of Santa Monica, Calif.; one sister, Mary McCartney of Milwaukee, Wisc.; 18 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Rev. McNeal's favorite song was "Jesus is Mine", and his favorite scripture was Philippians 1:21, "For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain."
