He was 63, and a native of Leesville, La. He was a Consulting Engineer, and owner-president of A. Duane McRae and Assoc., Inc. He was in the Army Engineers Battalion of the Korean Conflict. He was a 1955 graduate of L.S.U. Visiting was held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, located on East 1000 Florida Blvd. in Baton Rouge, on March 16, from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. The services began at 10 a.m., and were conducted by Rev. Pat Lyle, and Rev. Pete Spitzkeit. A Masonic graveside service was held at 4 p.m., on March 16, at the Self Cemetery in Leesville. Mr. McRae was a member of Louisiana Engineering Society, Consulting Engineers of Louisiana, American Society of Civil Engineers, Louisiana Society of Professional Surveyors, Leesville Masonic Lodge #240 F.A.&M., and the National Rifle Association. In 1986, Mr. McRae became affiliated with the Sabine Parish Police Jury through the Federal Off System Bridge Program, which is a federal and state funded program, that replaces substandard bridges owned by parishes. The Jury selected Duane to work with the parish, and Department of Transportation, and development on the engineering of several bridges. This relationship grew over the years, as the federal government and state required the parishes to have interim inspections done on parish bridges approximately every six months. Duane's firm handled these inspections and ratings for the parish, and the parish had always remained in compliance. Parishes out of compliance would lose their funding. This led to the parish, along with the Sabine River Authority, selecting Duane's firm to do engineering work on many of the recent SRA road access projects along the Toledo Bend Reservoir. Over the years, Duane has done engineering on many other state projects in this area, such as portions of U.S. Highway 171, and the Scenic Highway, as well as work along the shoreline of Toledo Bend Reservoir, prior to its construction. Duane will be truly missed by his friends in Sabine Parish.
