She was born Dec. 22, 1921, in Mansfield, and spent her early years in Sabine Parish. She was a graduate of Many High School and Northwestern State University. Before her marriage, she taught home economics at Pleasant Hill High School. Following her marriage to Capt. Andrew McCord Jr. in 1950, they lived at several Army bases in the U. S., and in Germany, where their second daughter, Marsha, was born. After his retirement from the military, and her retirement from the staff of St. Joseph's Hospital in Fort Worth, they lived on Roberts Road in Stanley, where Nell was a gracious hostess to many family gatherings. She loved planting trees and flowers, and enjoyed reading, sewing, and making quilts. Everybody loved her pleasant disposition, and her wonderful sense of Humor. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew McCord Jr.; parents, William Obe and Loula Latham Roberts; and two sisters, Elizabeth and Wilma. Survivors include two daughters, Beth Blasingame and husband Butch of Houston, Texas, and Marsha Takao and husband Alan of Bryan, Texas; several loving cousins, in-laws, and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 8, by the Rev. Guy Murphy, former pastor of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
