McCormick Sr. (Photo) Funeral services for John B. McCormick Sr., of Houston, Tex., were held Friday, Oct. 25, 1996, at 10:30 a.m., with his pastor, Father Anton Sheltz in St. Dominic Catholic Church, officiating. A veteran of World War II, he was laid to rest in Veteran's Cemetery in Houston, with full military honors. Mr. McCormick passed away after a lengthy illness, at St. Luke's Hospital, Monday, Oct. 21, in Houston, Tex. He was born in Many, Jan. 31, 1919, the son of Louis and Jodie McCormick, who preceded him in death; also four brothers, Fred, Dick, Lindy, and Kenneth, all of Many. He received his education in Many, and moved to Houston, Tex. in 1939. He worked at service stations from there to Oil Field Instruments, Tool and Supply Services, until World War II. He served with the Armed Forces in the U.S. during the war. He returned to Houston, and sought work with Brown and Root, where he worked until he retired in 1984, but continued to work within the company until 1989. He is survived by his wife, Hildegard McCormick; two sons, John B. Jr., and Ricky Louis McCormick of Houston, Tex.; six daughters, Mary Addington of Rogers, Ark., Louise McCoy, Barbie Tyler, Marcia Powell, Betty Rone, and Carol Cross, all of Houston, Tex.; four sisters, Marie Canton of Logansport, Marlyn Goss, Bettie Lites, and Cleta Anderson, all of Many; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren; and many, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, who will miss him greatly. Pallbearers were nephews, Jerry Alford, Ray Anderson, Louis Canton, Jody McCormick, Pat McCormick, and Paul McCormick.
