The accident happened at 2:50 p.m. Sgt. C. J. Miller, who investigated for the State Police, said McCormic drove the truck into a curve, and lost control. He said the truck skidded into a bridge, turning over one and one half times, and coming to rest in the middle of the highway. Sgt. Miller said McCormic was apparently thrown out of the truck when it first rolled over, and when it made the half turn, it caught him about mid-body, penning him between the ground and truck. Harry Nichols and Ira Joe Key of the Many Volunteer Fire Dept. were present with the fire truck to prevent a fire. They kept the road washed, and the gasoline scattered. The Rev. Bill White, Sabine Parish Civil Defense Director, was also present. Dr. Richard Oosta, Parish Coroner, pronounced McCormic dead at the scene. Funeral services for Mr. McCormic were held Friday, at the Many Church of Christ, at 2 p.m. Bro. James Tidwell, and Bro. B. J. Tidwell Sr. officiated. Burial was in Fenders Cemetery, under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home of Many. Survivors were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred McCormic of Many; a son, Luke McCormic Jr. of Many; a brother, John Wayne McCormic of Many; a sister, Miss Gloria Jane McCormic of Many; and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Salter of Gilmer, Tex. Pallbearers were his uncles.
