Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 28, in the Friendship Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Clarence Patton officiating, assisted by the Rev. Winston Lowe. Burial was in Friendship Cemetery, under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home. Survivors are his widow; three sons, Evel Matthews of Robeline, Robert Matthews of Houston, Tex., and George Matthews of Natchitoches; six daughters, Mrs. Eura Powell of Robeline, Mrs. Lois Branton of Bossier city, Mrs. Jo Dean of Mountain Home, Ark., Mrs. Margie Boudreaux of Nederland, Tex., Mrs. Martha Stewart of Houston, Tex., and Mrs. Mary Santora of Bossier City; three brothers, I. W. Matthews of Oil City, Tommy Matthews of Hemphill, Tex., and J. R. Matthews of Robeline; three sisters, Mrs. Nettie Cutright of El Paso, Tex., Mrs. Ola Lemons of Many, and Mrs. Bessie Corley of Robeline; 37 grandchildren, and 34 great grandchildren.
