Matthews is survived by his widow, Gayle Matthews of Robeline; seven sons, Chester Matthews, Jim Matthews, Scott Matthews, Steven Matthews, Jeff Matthews, Patrick Matthews, and Mike Matthews, all of Robeline; four daughters, Mrs. Evon Allen of Portland, Oregon, Mrs. Renston Dishotel of Mamou, Kathy Mead of Shreveport, and Linda Matthews of Robeline; his mother, Mrs. Sadie Matthews of Robeline; six sisters, Mrs. Eura Powell of Robeline, Mrs. David Beaudrea of Port Neches, Tex., Mrs. O. D. Branton of Bossier City, Mrs. Charles Santoria of Bossier City, Mrs. G. P. Stewart of Houston, Tex., and Mrs. Bobbie Dean of Lufkin, Tex.; two brothers, R. P. Matthews of Houston, Tex., and George Matthews of Natchitoches; 13 grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Funeral services were held at the Friendshp Nazarene Church on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Winston Lowe officiated. Burial was in the Friendship Cemetery, under the direction fo the Warren Meadows Funeral Home.
