The Sabine Index - August 23, 1973

  J. D. Matthews, Jr.

  Funeral services were held for J. D. Matthews, Jr. on August 11,
at the New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Many. The Rev. L. D. Davis
and Rev. J. L. Lee officiated.

  Mr. Matthews, who was 50 years old, died on August 6 at Memorial
Hospital in Shreveport.

  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Annie B. Matthews; one son,
James Ray Matthews; one foster daughter, Willie Mae Matthews; a
daughter-in-law, Mrs. Daisy Matthews; mother and stepfather, Mr.
Brady Pierce; stepmother, Mrs. Emma Matthews; five sisters; one
stepsister; three brothers; four aunts; nine uncles; grandfather
and a host of other relatives and friends.

  Burial services were handled by the Winfield Funeral Home.
Burial took place at the New Jerusalem Cemetery.
