Matthews Graveside services for Mr. George B. Matthews, 86, were held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Greenwood Cemetery, under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home. Rev. Jake Fisher, chaplain of L.S.U. Medical Center, officiated. Mr. Matthews died Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Schumpert Medical Center, after a short illness. He was born in Pleasant Hill, and had been a resident of Shreveport for 51 years. Mr. Matthews was a heavy equipment operator for the city of Shreveport, and a Baptist. He is survived by his sons, Jack Matthews of Shreveport, and Wayne Matthews of Ada, Okla.; sister, Ola Burns of Center, Texas; six grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Andy Matthews, Kenneth Matthews, Chester Burns Jr., Charlie Matthews, Jim Lafitte, Chester Burns Sr., and honorary pallbearer, Steve Matthews.
