Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at 10 a.m., in the chapel of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches. The Revs. Jim Armstrong, and Wayne Marrow officiated. Interment followed in the Friendship Cemetery in Many. Survivors include his widow, Shirley Ann Mathews of Natchitoches; two sons, Harold Keith Matthews and wife Denise of Ruston, and Craig Stephen Moran and wife Camille of Natchitoches; two daughters, Lisa Annette Matthews Rogers and husband Sam of Shreveport, and Kathleen Lanell Moran Deloney and husband Mark of Natchitoches; father, James Rufus Matthews of Many; one brother, Billy Matthews and wife Bonnie of Natchitoches; two sisters, Peggy Rivers of Many, and Mary Jane Larpenter and husband Jerry of Many; and eight grandchildren, Tyler, Chase, Victoria, Caroline, Hailey, Hillary, Holly, and Hannah. He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Melvina Stewart Matthews; and a brother, Bobby Matthews. Mr. Matthews was a native of Robeline, and a resident of Natchitoches. He graduated from Many High School, and retired from Tom's Foods in 1994. Pallbearers will be Jim Matthews, Gene McDavid, Norman Stewart, Jace Matthews, Jerry Larpenter, Mark Matthews, and Tommy Roark. Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home, Natchitoches, La.
