All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Dr. Barbara Gayle Matthews Funeral services for Dr. Barbara Gayle Matthews, 38, of Weatherford, Okla., were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 27, 1996, at the St. Eugene's Catholic Church in Weatherford. Father Stephen Bird officiated. Burial followed in the Greenwood Cemetery in Weatherford, under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home of Weatherford. Ms. Matthews was born on Oct. 9, 1957, in Many, to Peyton and Verna (Ebarb) Matthews, and died Wednesday, Jan. 24, at Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was raised in Many, and graduated from Many High School in 1972. She then attended Northwestern State University, and she received two undergraduate degrees, and her Masters. In 1987, she received her Doctorate from North Texas State University in Denton, Texas. In 1989, she moved to Weatherford, and in August of 1990, she became an assistant Professor at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, teaching Business Administration. She was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Chamber of Commerce, Professional Woman's Group, Kappa Kappa Iota, and the National Business Education Association, the Mountain-Plains Business Education Association, and the Oklahoma Business Education Association, MEACO, and Delta Pi Epsilon. She was also a sponsor of the Circle K International, and Catholic Student Association. She also attended St. Eugene's Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to the St. Eugene's Catholic Church Building Fund. Ms. Matthews is survived by her mother, Verna Matthews of Weatherford; two brothers, John C. Matthews of Canyon Lake, Texas, and Timothy P. Matthews of Nebraska; and one sister, Ann Matthews of Weatherford. She Was preceded in death by her father, Peyton Matthews.
