All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Leon Davis Mitchell, Jr. Funeral services for Mr. Leon Davis Mitchell Jr., 65, of Many, were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 3, at First United Methodist Church of Many. Interment followed in the Many Cemetery, under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home. Rev. John Koelemay, and Rev Larry Norman officiated. Mr. Mitchell passed away Tuesday, May 1, at Schumpert Medical Center in Shreveport. His death marks the end of 60 years of excellence in service from the Mitchell Machine Shop, located at the fork of the Middle Creek Road, and Hwy 6 East. Established in 1930 by Leon D. Mitchell Sr., Junior took pride and joy in the replaced shop, which he built in 1963 when the Highway was widened. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge, and Many Bass Club. His life personified the word "Friend". He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Mitchell of Many; one daughter, Jane Ellen Mitchell of Shreveport; one son, Bruce Leon Mitchell of Zwolle; one sister and brother-in-law, Katherine and Harvey Derbonne of Winnfield; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Pallbearers were Gene Elkins, Huey Dowden, Jack Creighton, Bill Kratz, Gene Parker, Bud Frey, Bill Creed, Buster, Murray. Honorary pallbearers were Charley Tramel, Bob Clark, Gordon Parker, T. W. James. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, or the First United Methodist Church of Many, or church of choice.
