Alfred Mitchell, 85, of Mansfield, were held Friday, July 5, 1996, at 10 a.m., at Southside Baptist Church of Mansfield. Officiating was Rev. Bob Miller, pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church, and Dr. Scott Tatum, retired Baptist minister, will be assisting. Interment was at Mansfield Cemetery. Rev. Mitchell passed away Tuesday, July 2, in Mansfield, following a sudden illness. He was a native of Ruston, and a resident of Mansfield. He was a minister. Bro. Mitchell came to know Christ at the Old Second Baptist Church in Mansfield, at the age of 19. He was called to preach at the age of 25, and was in the ministry for 60 years. He pastored numerous country churches in Sabine and DeSoto Parishes, before becoming pastor of Southside Baptist Church of Mansfield in 1947. He remained at Southside until his retirement in 19?. He was interim pastor, and supplied in many churches in Sabine and DeSoto Parishes, until his death. He officiated at hundreds of weddings and funerals over the years, of church members, friends, family, and even people he did not know. Under his ministry and leadership, many people came to know Christ, and to be called into full time Christian Ministry. He was a devoted pastor, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, who loved and served the Lord by preaching the gospel, and loving and serving his family and people. He was a testimony of the life changing experience of knowing and walking with Christ, by living the gospel, and the Bible he taught and preached for so many years. His life will continue to live on through his family, and the many people Christ touched through his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Annie Elias Mitchell; and brothers, Mack Mitchell, and Edward Mitchell. Survivors include his wife, Lillian Bullock Mitchell of Mansfield; children, Charles E. Mitchell of Shreveport, Alfred Lynn Mitchell and wife Jackie of Bossier City, Mary Mitchell Eason and husband Doyle of Zwolle, Martha Mitchell Savell and husband Tommy of Shreveport, and David C. Mitchell and wife Debbie of Houston, Tex.; brothers, George Mitchell of Cotton Valley, and John Mitchell of Mansfield; sisters, Julia Mitchell Robinette of Mansfield, and Eva Mitchell Markey of Blue Springs, Missouri; grandchildren, Annette Eason Willett and husband Rick of Alvin, Tex., James Alfred Eason and wife Karen of Auburn, Ala., Karla Mitchell Caskey and husband Luke of Carrollton, Tex., Kristi Mitchell Galey and husband Chuck of Bossier City, Britney Mitchell of Baton Rouge, Allison Cryar of Shreveport, and Thomas Savell of Shreveport; and great grandchildren, Elizabeth Willet, Madison Caskey, and Kendall Galey. Pallbearers were Charles Jacobs, R. U. Johnson, Ben Johnson, Bob Sanders, Douglas Raines, Marlin Caston, James Alfred Eason, and Thomas Savell IV. Honorary pallbearers were Cecil Brown, Charles Sanders, Doyle Eason, Rick Willett, Luke Caskey, Chuck Galey, Tommy Savell, and Herbert Williams. The family wishes to give special thanks to Dr. Leigh Dillard, and the emergency room staff of DeSoto General Hospital. The family requests that memorials may be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home in Monroe, the Building Funds of Southside Baptist Church in Mansfield, Frierson Baptist Church in Frierson, or Fellowship Baptist Church in Mansfield.
