All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Delma Lea Milligan A 39 year old Dodson woman was accidentally shot and killed while sitting on a deer stand in the Tannehill Community near Winnfield, Saturday morning, Nov. 17. Dead at the scene was Delma Lea Milligan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Roy Newman of Florien. Winn Parish Sheriff's deputies rescue squad members, and Wildlife and Fisheries Agents responded to the 7 a.m. call. Authorities said that Mrs. Milligan was wearing proper hunter's orange when she was fatally wounded. Ballistic tests were being performed by the crime lab to determine the caliber of the gun (or guns) fired into the deer stand. Funeral services were held at the Toro Baptist Church in Florien on Tuesday, Nov. 20, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Benny Crittenden officiated. Burial was in the Toro Cemetery, under the direction of the Warren Meadows Funeral Home. Survivors, other than her parents, include two sons, Stan Gilbert Milligan, and Richard Walton Milligan, both of Dodson; one daughter, Edith Elizabeth Milligan of Pisgah; three brothers, Raymond Newman, and Archie L. Newman, both of Florien, and William F. Newman of Bossier City; and three sisters, Sue Livingston, and Ella Chism, both of Many, and Reba Lorie Martinez of Los Osos, California. Pallbearers were Thomas Hugh Chism, Billy W. Chism, Hubert Semons, David Sandel, Steve Powell, and Charles Chism.
