He was born in Marthaville on Oct. 22, 1902. He was the son of the late Lucy Hilton Jenkins, and Allen Mallard. During his childhood years, his family lived in Marthaville. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Dec. 26, at New Jerusalem Baptist Church, with interment following at Marthaville Cemetery. On Jan. 31, 1925, he married Harriett B. Richardson, who preceded him in death. To this union, four children, Joseph Mallard Jr., Geneva M. Curry, Henry Mallard, and Johnny Mallard were born. Two children, Johnny Mallard, and Mary Honore preceded him in death. He and his family lived in Marthaville for a number of years. He later moved from Natchitoches Parish to Sabine Parish, where he remained until his death. He accepted Christ under the leadership of the Rev. Clois Rodgers, and was baptized by Pastor Rodgers and Deacon Jairot Curry. Survivors include three children, Joseph Mallard Jr., Geneva M. Curry, and Henry Mallard, all of Many; 30 grandchildren; 71 great grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family of Joseph Mallard Sr. express sincere appreciation, with grateful hearts, and sincere gratitude for the many kind expressions during his illness and death. May God continue to bless each of you. Pallbearers were William E. Curry Jr., Jairot C. Curry, Erskine W. Curry, Curry C. Hale, Chapanez L. Hale, and George M. Hale. Honorary pallbearers were Deacons and Trustees of New Jerusalem Baptist Church.
