Maines, 78, of Shreveport, died in Shreveport on Thursday, May 9, at 1:30 p.m., following a short illness. Maines is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary Maines of Shreveport; two daughters, Mrs. Alice Fazio of Houston, Tex., and Mrs. Joe L. Gates of Burns Flats, Okla.; one son, James E. Maines Jr., of Destin, Fla.; four brothers, Mark Maines of Florien, Tom Maines of Goldonna, Ellis Maines, and Riley Maines, both of Natchitoches; two sisters, Mrs. D. L. Hennigan of Marthaville, and Mrs. Hoyt Webb of Palestine, Tex.; a number of nieces and nephews, and 12 grandchildren. Funeral services were held in the Springridge Baptist Church on Saturday, May 11, at 2:30 p.m., with the Rev. Foster Jennings, and the Rev. J. E. Shoemaker officiating. Burial was in the Springridge Cemetery, under the direction of the Warren Meadows Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Thomas Hennigan, Kenneth Maines, Steve Brown, Trenice Maines, Tommy Maines, and Mitch Dofson.
