All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Ms. Shirley Ann Hays Morgan Ms. Shirley Ann Hays Morgan died Tuesday, April 13, 1999, at 2:10 p.m., at her home in Baton Rouge, after a brief illness. A memorial service was held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 17, at Rabenhorst Funeral Home. Ms. Morgan was born in Many on July 16, 1935, and was a 1953 graduate of Many High. Ms. Morgan received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northwestern State College in Natchitoches in 1957, at which time she was given the Outstanding Student Nurse Award. She earned the degree of Master of Science in nursing at the University of Maryland in 1959. During her career, spanning more than 40 years, she practiced nursing in several facilities in the state, including Charity Hospital, and Confederate Hospital in Shreveport, Baton Rouge General Medical Center, Earl K. Long Memorial, and the former Medical Center of Baton Rouge, each in Baton Rouge. Also during her career, she taught nursing at the Baton Rouge campus of Northwestern State University, Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, and the University of Southwestern in Lafayette. Prior to her illness, she was employed by Hospice of Baton Rouge, as an admittance nurse. Survivors include her son, daughter-in-law, and two granddaughters, Alan, Eva, Suzanne, and Mary Kathryn Morgan, all of Broussard; a sister and brother-in-law, Polly and Bill Edwards of Dunnellon, Fla.; two nephews; four nieces; and a host of family and friends. Ms. Morgan was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Hays of Many, and a half brother, Calvin A. Hays of Lake Charles.
