Services were at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, at Southern Funeral Home Chapel in Winnfield. The Revs. Calvin Phelps, and Charles Haley officiated. Burial was in Big Creek Cemetery, Dry Prong. Surviving are three sons, the Rev. Earl D. Mercer, Monroe, formerly of Zwolle, W. Elmo Mercer, Nashville, Tenn., and James Ronald Mercer, Crossett, Ark.; one daughter, Mrs. Dan Rankin Byers, Tex.; three brothers, the Rev. Moses E. Mercer, Shreveport, Harry Mercer, and Jesse Mercer, both of Pollack; three sisters, Mrs. Elmer Bruce, Bentley, Mrs. Virgil Waters, Pollack, and Mrs. Eugene Smith, Bossier City; and ten grandchildren. The family suggested that memorials to the New Cottage Building Fund of the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home, Monroe, be contributed in lieu of flowers.
