All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Dan Mercer Funeral services for Dan Mercer, 53, of Marshall, Tex., was held at 4 p.m., Monday, Aug. 31, in the chapel of Jim Martin Funeral Directors, Dr. William J. Fritts, and the Rev. Bruce Will officiating. Burial was in Woodley Cemetery, with Masonic graveside rites by Marshall Masonic Lodge No. 22 F/AM. Mr. Mercer died Saturday, Aug. 29, at Marshall Memorial Hospital, of a heart attack. A lifelong county resident, he was born Feb. 5, 1928, in Elysian Fields, to James Hendricks, and Adell Woodley Mercer. He served in the U. S. Military during World War II, ant the Korean Conflict. Mr. Mercer was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., for 32 years. He belonged to the First Baptist Church of Marshall. He was a member of Marshall Masonic Lodge No. 22 F and A.M., and the Marshall Lions Club. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Dan Libby Wedgeworth Mercer of Marshall, formerly of Zwolle; his mother, Mrs. J. H. Adelle Mercer of Elysian Fields; a daughter, Dana Mercer Haden of Marshall; a son, Stanley Mercer of Marshall; two sisters, Mrs. Wayne Anne Mae Griffin of the Cross Roads Community, and Mrs. Charles R. Billye Lawrence of Elysian Fields; a grandson, Joe Haden of Marshall, a nephew; two nieces; and a number of aunts and uncles. Pallbearers were Barnett Cordray, Wayne Woodfin, James J. Watson, Gerald Smith, Steve McFarland, and C. D. "Bud" Taylor. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Roger Jones, Dr. Roger Harmon, members of the Lions Club, members of the First Baptist's Adult 3 Sunday School Class, and friends and family. Memorials may be made to the Youth Endowment Fund of the First Baptist Church, the Lions Crippled Children's Camp in Kerrville, or the Crippled Children's Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas.
