All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Wilson Martinez (Photo) A Requiem Mass for Mr. Wilson Martinez, 78, were held Monday, October 9, 1995, at 11 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Zwolle, under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home, Many. Officiating was Father David Richter. Interment was in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, with full military honors, conducted by the Sabine Chapter #21 of the Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Wilson was born September 27, 1917, in Zwolle, to the late Gilbert and Gertrude Martinez. Mr. Wilson died at Schumpert Medical Center, Saturday, October 7, following a lengthy illness. Mr. Wilson married Rosie Sepulvado Martinez, August 14, 1944. They have shared 51 wonderful years of marriage. Mr. Wilson was a lifetime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Zwolle, for which he served as an usher for 48 years. Mr. Wilson was also a member of the Knights of Columbus for 36 years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving from 1941-46, and belonged to the Sabine Chapter #21 of the DAV. Mr. Wilson was a member of the Zwolle Fire Dept. for 22 years, and was employed by Paul Ebarb Co. for 48 years, working in the Grocery and Hardware Dept. until his retirement. Among his favorite pastimes were fishing, watching rodeos, feeding his animals, gardening, and playing games with the children. Mr. Wilson served his church, country, family, and community, to the best of his ability, never having a lot to say, but always lending a helping hand and a smile to everyone. Survivors include four children, Sylvester Martinez and his wife Arlene, Larry Martinez and his wife Irma Jean, and Alvin Martinez, all of Zwolle, and Charlotte Martinez Dickey and her husband Bobby of Shreveport; seven grandchildren, Jason, Lisa, Brad, Amy, Debra, Chad, and Landon; three great grandchildren, Amber, Lauren, and Mikie, round out his immediate family. Mr. Wilson has also been known and loved by many children, for which he and Mrs. Rosie have helped raise (by babysitting for countless years), as "POPO". He is also survived by two brothers, Homer, and Gilbert Martinez, both of Zwolle. Pallbearers for the services were B. J. Britt, Sam Parrie, Eric Laroux, Thom Kruse, Ronnie (Mook) Sepulvado, Tim Sepulvado, Anthony Longoria, and Huey Cordova. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Knights of Columbus.
