Merrill Patrick Stephen Merrill, 12-year-son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Merrill of Shreveport, was injured fatally, shortly before 11 a.m., Thursday, April 19, when he fell out of a tree in the backyard of his home. He was dead on arrival at Schumpert Hospital in a Bossier Ambulance. Caddo Coroner, Dr. Stuart DeLee, said the boy suffered a broken neck. He returned a verdict of accidental death. The boy was born in Many. He was a student at St. Pius School. A rosary was recited at 8 p.m., Friday, April 20. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 21, in the Osborn Funeral Home Chapel. Survivors, in addition to his parents, include three sisters, Kim Elizabeth, Donna K., and Dawn Renee Merrill, all of Shreveport; three brothers, Richard Joseph Jr., Eric Todd, and Mathew Christopher Merrill, all of Shreveport; paternal grandparents, Arthur Merrill of Lowell, Mass., and Irene Jacangelo of Shreveport; maternal grandparents, Mrs. W. T. Murrell, and L. B. Smith, both of Many; and a great grandmother, Mrs. Ada Mitchell of Many.
