The Sabine Index - Mrs. Oscar Alford

  8 Mar 1940 - Mrs. Oscar Alford of Bellwood, sister-in-law of Ms.
Maurice Peterson, died at her home in Bellwood Sunday and was interred
in Shady Grove cemetery Monday.  She was also the sister-in-law of
Mrs. Ross Alford.

The Sabine Index - Enoch Brooks

  22 Mar 1940 - Last rites for Enoch Brooks, age 63 years, were held
Monday at 4 p.m., with interment in the Fenders cemetery.  Rev. Pratt
McCloud of Leesville officiated.  Funeral directed by the Dennis-Green
funeral home.

  Surviving are Mrs. Enoch Brooks, Mrs. Eula Britt, Rt. 2, Many,
Johnsone Brooks, Fisher; Louis Brooks, Shreveport; Nolan Brooks,
Mansfield, Marguerite and Edward Brooks, Many Route 2.

The Sabine Index - J. N. Cowart

  22 Mar 1940 - Funeral services were held at Beulah church Monday,
March 18, for J. N. Cowart who died at his home in Huntington, Texas
at the age of 66.  Rev. Westmore, pastor of the Baptist church of
which he was a member, conducted the services, with interment in the
Beulah cemetery.

  Mr. Cowart was born in Alabama and moved to Sabine parish with his
parents at the age of four years and lived here ever since until about
five years ago when he moved to Huntington, where he has made his home
since.

  Mr. Cowart leaves one daughter, Mrs. J. B. Wooley; four sons, Fred,
Ray, Albert and Truman Cowart; and seven grandchildren.  He also has
three brothers, Nelson, Grady and Earl Cowart, all at Huntington,
Texas, as well as a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his
passing.

  1 Mar 1940 - Funeral services for Mrs. Nellie Young Leach, 44, who
died in a Wichita Falls, Texas, hospital Feb. 19, were held from the
Dennis funeral home in Leesville last Wednesday.  Rev. Huntsberry
conducted the service.

  Surviving are her husband, Charles A. Leach, Wichita Falls, Texas;
two sisters, Mrs. O. C. Dour, Billings, Mont., and Mrs. V. P. Kush,
Casper, Wyo.

The Sabine Index - Samantha Alford Parrott

  22 Mar 1940 - Mrs. Samantha Alford Parrott, age 70, passed away at
Fraser sanitarium March 14 after a serious operation.  Mrs. Parrott
was ill only a few days.

  This good woman will be greatly missed.  She leaves a husband, W. T.
Parrott, Sr.; two step-daughters, Mrs. Henry Vines of Many and Mrs.
Polly Davis of Miami, Fla.; one step-son, Willie T. Parrott of Many;
two sisters, Mrs. R. S. Hendrix of Many and Mrs. L. L. Williams of
Florien; three brothers, W. T. Alford of Many, J. W. Alford of Many;
and R. C. Alford of Shreveport, and a host of nieces and nephews.

  The body remained in wait at the home of the son, Willie T. Parrott.
 Funeral services were held at Pilgrim's Rest cemetery.  Pallbearers :
 T. M. Phillips, Bennie McNeely, A. G. Dees, Ed Curtis, Rolly Patrick
and Louis Vines.  Funeral directed by Dennis-Green funeral home.

The Sabine Index - Dr. J. S. Paul

  8 Mar 1940 - News was received here Wednesday morning of the death
of Dr. J. S. Paul, who died at 6:30 a.m. in Dallas, Texas.  Funeral
services will be held there at 10 o'clock Thursday morning.  Interment
will be in Paul cemetery, Converse Friday morning at 11 o'clock.

  Mrs. J. B. Vandegaer has been with her father for more that a week
and was at his bed side when he passed away.

  1 Mar 1940 - Friends will regret the death of John Williams of San
Augustine, Texas, formerly of Many, which occurred Saturday night at
the veterans hospital in Alexandria.

  Mr. Williams was the brother-in-law of Bill Martin of this city.
