Singletary 3 Mar 1944 - Funeral rites for Roy W. Singletary, age 44 years, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pisgah. Rev. D. C. Dale of Provencal officiated. Interment was in Pisgah cemetery Dennis-Green funeral home in charge. Pallbearers were: Sexton Hayes, Freeman Green, William Lilley, J. C. Hayes, and Clifton Berry. Surviving are wife and five children, two sons, Freddie and Earl Jean of Marthaville; three daughters, Mrs. Marie Terrell, Misses Sadie Ann and Ruth of Marthaville; mother, Mrs. Katie Singletary; six brothers, Alex, Charlie, Clifton, Harry, George and Walter of Marthaville; one sister, Mrs. Lillie Moore of Marthaville. *********************************************************** Obituaries: Mrs. Annie Goss Dillon, Sabine Parish D-450 Source: Sabine Index, Many, La., Mar 10, 1944 Submitted by: Tammy Larche-Smith tammy@cp-tel.net The Sabine Index - Mrs. Annie Goss Dillon 10 Mar 1944 - Funeral services were held at Many Methodist church for Mrs. Annie Goss Dillon, 83, Sunday afternoon, who died at the home of her niece, Mrs. Margaret Riley of Glouster. Rev. R. T. Pynes, Rev. L. N. Hoffpauir and Rev. D. W. Bolton of Many conducted the services with Rose-Neath funeral home in charge. Interment was in Many cemetery. Mrs. Dillon is survived by two step-sons, Dr. W. E. Dillon and John Dillon; four step-daughters, Mesdames Bettie Peterson, Lattie Mitchell, Dan Collins and Jim Scriggins several step-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Mrs. Dillon was a resident of Many for 35 years, being the relict of E. C. Dillon. She was a devoted Christian mother and friend to her step-children and was loved by everyone who knew her. *********************************************************** Obituaries: Mrs. S. J. Speights 10 Mar 1944 -Funeral rites for Mrs. S. J. Speights, age 68, were held 10:30 Monday at Little Flock church. Rev. W. G. Bailey officiated, interment Little Flock cemetery, Dennis-Green Funeral home in charge. Pallbearers were Jack Colvin, Joe Adams, James Adams, M. C. Ford, W. C. Caldwell and W. A. Ridgeway. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. M. C. Ford of Laird Hill, Texas; four sisters, Mrs. Fannie Miles of Fruitville, Texas, Mrs. Hattie Leach of Pineville, Mrs. Lash of Many and Mrs. L E. Speight was born at Mansfield and had lived most of her life at Recknor. Hardee, Sr., a life-long resident of Pleasant Hill, died at his home Sunday morning. Funeral services were conducted at Pleasant Hill Methodist church Monday by the Rev. Jeff Holiday, Methodist pastor. He was assisted by the Rev. Eiland of the Baptist church and the Rev. D. L. Dykes of Zwolle. Surviving are: his widow; two sons, T. W. Hardee, Jr., and Hugh Hardee of Pleasant Hill; three sisters, Mrs. Ray Thomas of Crowley, Mrs. Lou Rembert of Marshall, Texas, and Mrs. Tom Dykes of Pleasant Hill; two brothers, Conrad Hardee of Shreveport and Emmit Hardee. Metcalf, 54, stockman and long-time resident of Zwolle died on the night of March 7 at Allen sanitarium, Converse. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Fannie Kendrick Metcalf; a daughter, Miss Rachel Metcalf of Barnes, Texas; an adopted son, Preston Metcalf of Zwolle; his mother, Mrs. Janie Metcalf of Dallas, Texas; and by one brother and six sisters. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Zwolle Methodist church with the Rev. D. L. Dykes, pastor, conducting the services. Burial was in Zwolle cemetery.
