Forbis, age 86 years and seven months, will be held Thursday, May 21, at three o'clock at Fort Jesup Baptist church, Rev. O. Roberts officiating. Interment will be in the Fort Jesup cemetery. C. W. Williams officiating, interment Many cemetery, Dennis-Green funeral home in charge. Pallbearers were: C. A. Hoagland, Harold Williams, Mike Pearson, Aubrey Lee, C. L. Massingill, Dr. G. F. Weber of Many and A. A. DeWitt and J. O. Kimbrell. Surviving are parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Geohagan; one brother, James of Flora; one sister, Miss Clovis of Many, and grandfather, J. N. Hildebrand of Many route four. Edward has been in ill health for a long time, being confined to bed for over a year. W. G. Bailey and Rev. C. W. Williams officiating, interment Warren cemetery, Dennis-Green funeral home in charge. Pallbearers were members of the American Legion, the deceased being a veteran of World War I: J. B. Vandegaer, T. M. Phillips, Robert B. Jackson, W. E. Curtis, Floyd Alford, and Van Vines. Self of Many route four, and a large number of other relatives. ***************************************************************** Obituaries: Mrs. Coleman Miller, Sabine Parish M-460 Source: Sabine Index, Many, La., May 1, 1942 Submitted by: Tammy Larche-Smith tammy@cp-tel.net The Sabine Index - Mrs. Coleman Miller 1 May 1942 - Mrs. Coleman Miller died suddenly April 16 of a heart attack at her home at Negreet. Funeral services were held at Little Flock Baptist church Saturday at 4 p.m., with Rev. Bailey in charge. Burial was in Little Flock Cemetery under the direction of Dennis-Green funeral home. Mrs. Miller was before her marriage Miss Elva Simpson, graduate nurse. Surviving are her husband; one son, Duglas Foster of Goose Creek, Texas; one step-son, C. A. Miller, Jr., in the navy submarine corps; three sisters Miss Maxie Simpson of Deridder, Mrs. Mary Meeks of New Orleans and Mrs. Drew Malloy of New Orleans; one brother, Alfred Simpson, New Orleans. Pallbearers were six of her friends from the neighborhood around her home. Mrs Miller will be greatly missed in the community in which she lived. She always gave of her best to those who were sick or in trouble. Her love for music was an inspiration in many of the singing conventions she attended. Her friends appreciating her love for music, came from many parts of the parish to sing at her funeral as a tribute to her memory. ***************************************************************** Obituaries: John M. Miller were held last Thursday at Pleasant Hill church, ward two, Rev. H. A. Martin officiating, interment Pleasant Hill cemetery, Dennis-Green funeral home in charge. Surviving are wife, Mrs. Laura Miller, Toro; four children, one son, J. L. Miller of Santa Rosa, Texas, three daughters, Mrs. Leon Castleberry of Santa Rosa, Texas, Miss Ruth Miller of Lake Charles and Miss Edith Miller of Zwolle. Mr. Miller died suddenly late last Wednesday of heart attack. Mr. Slay, or (Uncle Dutch) as he was known to his many friends, had been in ill health for a long period, being confined to the bed for the past four months, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Allie Sirmon, at 10:35 Tuesday morning. Mr. Slay was from the sturdy pioneer type, always having in mind the betterment of community and parish. He was active in civic and political matters, was a member of the parish democratic committee for several years and a member of the board of supervisors of elections at the time of his death. ***************************************************************** Obituaries: J. Williams, age 83 years, were held Tuesday at 4 o'clock, at the Many Methodist church, Rev. B. H. Andrews, superintendent of the Lake Charles district of the Methodist church, officiating, assisted by visiting preachers. Interment was in Many cemetery. Pallbearers were: Dr. S. F. Fraser, Robert B. Jackson, Edwin M. Fraser, Robert J. Lucius, R. A. Fraser and C. D. Hancock. Surviving are widow, Mrs. Lelia Williams; a daughter, Mrs. Ray Clark, San Francisco, Cal.; three sons, C. B. Williams of Gruber, Texas, L. G. Williams of Ruston and K. C. Williams of Houston, Texas. Rev. Williams died suddenly at his home at 6 a.m. Monday, He had served in the ministry for 46 years, and was superannuated in 1933, making his home in Many since retiring. His first charge was the Wesley circuit near Coushatta. He also served as pastor at Haughton, Pleasant Hill, Pelican, Lisbon, Bienville, Grand Cane, Jackson, Clinton, Ponchatoula, Many, Coushatta, Benton and Plain Dealing. He was admitted to the 42nd annual conference of Louisiana Methodist church held in Shreveport in 1887. Fifty years later he attended the 92nd annual conference of the church held in Shreveport in November, 1937. *****************************************************************
