Davis 21 May 1948 - Military funeral services were conducted at Belmont Sunday afternoon for Sgt. Leonard A. Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Davis of DeBerry, Texas. Sgt. Davis was killed on D-Day, June 6, during the battle of Normandy. He was a paratrooper. Surviving relatives include parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Davis, DeBerry, Texas; seven brothers, T. J. Davis, Carthage, Texas, M. E. Davis, Coushatta, Raymond W. Davis, Alabama, Bobby Davis, Montgomery, Eugene Davis, Logansport, Billy Ray and Orville, DeBerry, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. S. O. George, Shreveport, Mrs. Stanley Welch, Monroe. Funeral rites were conducted at First Baptist church, Many at 3 p.m. Tuesday by Rev. J. D. Scott, assisted by Rev. C. W. Williams and Rev. Charles S. Miers. Pallbearers were: J. T. May 7 May 1948 - Funeral services for John A. May, age 68 years, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Winie Tims, in Coushatta Monday, April 12, following a lengthy illness were held 3 p.m. April 14 from Martin Baptist church with Rev. Jack E. Byrd of Coushatta officiating. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nora Williams May; four sons, Melvin of Pelican, Robert of Noble, Fernell of Cedar Grove; four daughters; Mrs. Laura Lummus of Dallas, Texas, Mrs. Lena Butts of Houton, Texas, Mrs. Ida Grantham of Noble, Mrs. Winnie Tims of Coushatta; three brothers, Tom and Bill May, both of Cotton Valley, and Britt May of Clarence; one sister, Mrs. Abbie Waters of Gloster; 26 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The Leesville post Veterans Foreign Wars assisted in the ceremony. McNeely was the son of Mrs. Mattie McNeely, Toro community. He was killed off Newfoundland coast Feb. 18, 1942. Surviving are the mother; three sisters, Mrs. Alice Price, Security, Texas, Mrs. Lois Fisher and Mrs. Wanda Phelps, Lake Charles, and one brother, H. W. Pfc. Miller entered the marines in 1943, trained in San Diego, Calif., served in the Pacific, N. Caledonia, Guam and Marshall, awarded purple heart and expert rifleman's badge.
