Nichols, 94 year old prominent DeRidder resident, died at his home Thursday, May 18. Mr. Nichols founded the first drug store in DeRidder, and was a former mayor of that city. He also was a former president of the Calcasieu Parish School Board, the Beauregard Parish School Board, and formerly operated a retail grocery business, real estate agency, and a dry goods establishment. In addition, he was a deacon in the First Baptist Church here, where he enjoyed membership for 56 years. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Friday, in the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Emory Wallace officiating. Burial was in Cooper Cemetery, under the direction of Hixson's Funeral Home. Survivors are four daughters, Mrs. I. M. Bishop, and Mrs. G. W. Cline Jr. of DeRidder, Mrs. D. M. Norris of Many, and Mrs. N. J. Ropar of Lake Charles; four sons, J. Clyde Nichols of DeRidder, J. Carl Nichols, and H. E. Nichols of Lake Charles, and R. C. Nichols of San Antonio, Tex.; two brothers, Jesse, and C. A. Nichols of Merryville; and 90 direct descendants. Mr. Nichols was the father of Mrs. D. M. Norris, and the grandfather of Mrs. F. A. Zick of this town. Pallbearers were Wallace Nichols, Lee Manor Nichols, Robert Nichols, Gorden Nichols, Edward Nichols, grandsons, G. W. Cline III, F. A. Zick Jr., great grandson, George Booz, grandson-in-law.
