Newsome, 78, of Vidor, Texas, died in St. Elizabeth Hospital, after a lengthy illness. Newsome was a native of Meridian, Miss., and had lived in Vidor, Tex. for 24 years. He served in the Navy during World War I, and was a retired machinist from Mabrey Foundry and Machine Shop. Funeral services were held on Friday, April 19, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Memorial Funeral Home, with interment in Restlawn Memorial Park. Survivors include his wife, Eva Newsome of Vidor; one son, James Newsome of Beaumont; three daughters, Betty Comer of Crown Point, N. M., Colleen Safer, and Marilyn Hibbs, both of Vidor; three brothers, Carl, Clyde, and Horace Newsome, all of Fitzgerald, Georgia; five sisters, Daisy Miller of Dallas, Kathryn Vaughn of Vidilia, Georgia; Dorothy Kennedy, and Thalma Phillips, both of Fitzgerald, Georgia; and Edith Roach of Jacksonville, Florida. The widow, Mrs. Inez Lee Newsome Villalon resides in Beaumont. The Rev. Jack Comer, a son-in-law, conducted the funeral services. Pallbearers were grandsons Derwin Comer, Lynn Comer, George Safer, Ricky Safer, Randy Safer, and Jerry Safer. Newsome is also survived by 11 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
