Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. June 11 at the Hollywood Presbyterian Church in Shreveport with interment following at New Jerusalem Baptist Church Cemetery in Many. The Rev. David L. Jones, pastor of Hollywood Presbyterian Church, officiated. Mr. Newton was born to Samuel and Mattie Newton in Many. He was educated at Sabine High School in Many. He attended Southern University in Baton Rouge until he was called to serve his country in the United States Army. After serving his country, he returned home and attended Wiley College in Marshall, Texas where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree. He furthered his education by studying at the University of California at Berkley. He also received his Masters Degree from Columbia University in New York. He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his estranged wife, Ruby DeLores Fox Newton; a loving son, Donald Leonidas Newton, II and his wife, Maxine Lorraine of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren, Retrina, Donald III and LaDonna; great-granddaughter, Angel; and a host of other relatives and friends.
