All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** The Sabine Index - John Mitch Tatum 30 Nov 1951 - John Mitch Tatum, 71, of Noble was killed abut 6:45 a.m. Tuesday just west of the west overpass at Baton Rouge when he was thrown from this pickup truck after it collided with a large oil truck. State police said Mr. Tatum was alone at the time. He was headed towards Baton Rouge and the oil truck, driven by Wallace Hornsby of Washington was going east. The accident occurred about three miles west of the Mississippi river bridge on Highway 190 during a rain. Mr. Tatum is reported to have lost control of his vehicle and veered across the road into the path of the oncoming truck, owned by Herrin Transfer & Warehouse company of Baton Rouge. Dr. P. B. Landry, West Baton Rouge coroner conducted an inquest in Port Allen. Funeral services were at deceased's home at Noble with graveside services at Noble cemetery by Rev. Jerry Schmucker, pastor Converse Baptist church 3 p.m. Wednesday. Surviving relatives include: the widow of Noble; sons, J. M. Tatum, Jr., Converse, Jack Tatum, Lake Charles, Paul Tatum in the U. S. army in Japan; daughters, Mrs. C. L. Edwards, Noble, Mrs. Elaine Youngblood and Mrs. Austin Dees, both of Lake Charles; brother, H. G.
