Oxley Funeral services were conducted Sunday, May 20, for John H. Oxley, 72, of Hornbeck. Mr. Oxley died in a Shreveport hospital, Friday, May 19, after an extended illness. The services were held at the Plainview Baptist Church, with the Rev. Glenn Flenniken officiating. Interment was in the Beulah Cemetery, under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home of Many. Survivors include his wife, Rosie Oxley of Hornbeck; four stepsons, Riley Slaughter of Dodson, Taff Slaughter of Hornbeck, John C. Slaughter of Many, and Tevis Slaughter of Hornbeck; four daughters, Mrs. Lovie Rogers, and Mrs. Goldie Mae Stroud, both of Many, Miss Oveta Oxley, and Miss Juanita Oxley of Sour Lake, Tex.; four brothers, Will Oxley of Hornbeck, Fisher Oxley of Bellwood, Frank Oxley of Center, Tex., and Ambrose Oxley of Provencal; two sisters, Zilpha Darden of Hornbeck, and Mary Springer of DeRidder; 28 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
