All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Mr. Daniel Thomas O'Quinn, M.D. Mr. Daniel Thomas O'Quinn, M.D., 82, died Wednesday, August 27, at East Jefferson Hospital. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, August 31, at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Many. Survivors include widow, Dorothy Brumley O'Quinn; three daughters, Linda Ellis, Pamela Twardzik, and Daniel Benfield; and six grandchildren. Mr. O'Quinn practiced a medical career for over 55 1/2 years. He had a practice of Family Practice and Surgery, served on staff of East Jefferson Hospital, and former Metairie Hospital, which later became Elmwood Hospital. He was chief of staff, while at Metairie Hospital. Mr. O'Quinn was born in Elizabeth. He graduated as Valedictorian of his high school class. He graduated from La. Polytechnic Institute in 1936. While there, he was a soloist of the Men's Glee Club and Opera Guild. He was a member of Omega Kappa Fraternity, which became known national as Kappa Sigma. He received his M.D. from LSU Medical School in 1941. He served as an intern at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, and residency at Huey P. Long Hospital in Pineville, and E. A. Conway Memorial Hospital in Monroe, before transferring to Angola Prison, where he served as physician, at the request of the State Hospital Board. He opened practice in Shreveport for three years, then moved his office to Metairie in 1949, and retired on January 31, 1997. He was a major in the La. National Guard, through 1959. He was a member of the Jefferson Parish Medical Society, American Medical Association, American Academy of General Practice & American Society of Abdominal Surgeons. He was a former member of First Baptist Church in New Orleans, where he served as a lifetime deacon, and sang in the choir of the both churches. Warren Meadows, Many, La.
