All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Mrs. Mabel Trotti Owers Mrs. Mabel Trotti Owers, 40, of Hornbeck, was fatally wounded, early morning, July 14, by a blast from a shotgun that was thought to be empty. Her 16 year old son, Howard Jerome Owers, who had just finished lunch, was cleaning the gun when it discharged. Mrs. Owers was struck in the right side of her head. Mr. Owers, Howard, and a nine year old daughter, Karen, were home. A neighbor heard the shot and the children came screaming up the hill, and called officers and an ambulance. Mrs. Owers was taken to a hospital in Alexandria where she died. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., July 17, in the Hixson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Wayne Read officiated. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery, at Hornbeck. Survivors include her husband, Louis Owers of Hornbeck; two sons, Louis R. R. Owers of Houston, Tex., and Howard Jerome Owers of Hornbeck; four daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Ross of Alton, Ill., and Linda Owers, Marilyn Owers, and Karen Owers, all of Hornbeck; two brothers, Luther Trotti of Mansfield; and one sister, Mrs. Crystol Vincent of Silsbee, Tex.
