The Sabine Index - Thomas Leonard Andries

  24 Oct 1941 - Last rites for Thomas Leonard Andries, age 63
years were held at 9 o'clock, Thursday morning, at St. John's
Catholic with a Requiem Mass, Rev. J. A. Benoit officiating.
Interment in Dennis-Green Funeral Home directing.

  Mr. Andries, a life-long resident of Many passed away at 1:30
a.m. Wednesday at the family residence near Many. He was born
here March 7, 1879. Mr. Andries was a well known citizen of
Sabine Parish having lived most of his life in and around Many.

  Surviving are his wife Mrs. Mary Cecile Armstrong Andries; four
sons, J. C., Leotia, Texas; Lucian Shreveport; Harold, Camp Polk;
and Hubert, Mansfield; four daughter, Mrs. L. R. Pugh, Minden;
Mrs. F. A. Hunter, Shreveport; Mrs. J. W. Gandy, Killgore, Texas;
and Mrs. H. E. Mains, Minden; 14 grandchildren and a large number
of friends to mourn his passing.

  Active pallbearers were nephews and son-in-laws: J. G. Andries,
A. Blake Andries, J. J. Andries, Edward Andres, H. E. Mains, L.
R. Pugh, J. W. Gandy and F. A. Hunter.

  31 Oct 1941 - Last rites for Mrs. Margarie Dowden, age 81 years,
were held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kisatchie church, Rev. Russell
T. Pynes officiating. Dennis-Green funeral home directing,
interment in the Kisatchie cemetery.

  Surviving are one son, Thomas M. Dowden, Besbie, Ariz; six
daughters, Mrs. Lou McDaniels of Hornbeck, Mrs. Nora Bell Rhodes
of Robeline, Mrs. Ada Brown of Shreveport, Mrs. Nettie Rhodes of
Bellwood, Mrs. Ellen Dowden of Shreveport and Gertie Key of Many;
28 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren.

Florien were held at Antioch last Wednesday at 10 o'clock. Rev.
W.G. Bailey officiating, Dennis-Green funeral home directing,
Interment Antioch Cemetery.

  Surviving are four children, Geo. W. Leach, Florien; Mrs. Nora
Price, Dequincy; M.V. Leach, Florien, Dawson Leach, Florien and
one sister, Mrs. Jo Stroud.

Mrs. T. G. Gass of Marthaville, Mrs. W. A. Ross of Pleasant Hill
and Mrs. Betty K. McFerin of Homer; 33 grandchildren and 22
great-grandchildren.

  Mrs. Moffett passed away Thursday morning about 3 a.m. Her
husband, John J. Moffett, passed on Sunday of this week, funeral
rites being held Monday.

The Sabine Index - Gwendalyn Newsome

  24 Oct 1941 - Funeral services for Gwendalyn Newsome, three year
old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Newsome of Beaumont, Texas
was conducted at the Toro church by Rev. H. E. Chane Oct. 16. She
died October 15 in Beaumont, Texas after a short illness. Mr. and
Mrs. Newsome formerly lived at Gandy and moved to Beaumont two
months ago.

were held Tuesday at Siloam at 3 p.m., Rev. Joe Flanagan of
Zwolle officiating, interment Siloam cemetery, Dennis-Gree
funeral home directing.

  Surviving are four sons, Cecil Parrott of Many, Grady Parrott of
Stockton, Cal., Luther Parrott of Conroe, Texas, Ruthes Parrott
of Houston, Texas; two daughter, Mrs. D. W. Nabours of Many and
Mrs. H. B. Sparkman of Clarksville, Texas; and 10 grandchildren.
