All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Miss Pearle Peace Miss Pearle Peace passed away Oct. 2, at 2 a.m., at Oschner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Z. J. and Sarah Nelson Peace. She was born and reared in Sabine Parish, having moved to Leesville in 1920. She was a teacher in the public schools for 35 years. She taught Home Economics at Leesville High School for 25 years. She received her B. A. Degree at Northwestern State College, Masters Degree at the Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, and did work on her PH degree at Denver, Colo. Miss Peace was a member of the First Baptist Church of Leesville, where her funeral was conducted, Oct. 4, a 2:30 p.m., with Dr. R. P. Butler, the Rev. P. Lionel Crowell, and Mr. William Hastings officiating. Her body was laid to rest in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, west of Hornbeck, the old family burial grounds. The graveside services were by the Eastern Star, Ester Chapter No. 26 of Leesville. Miss Peace was active in many organizations. Her church work always came first, having served faithfully in many capacities. She was a member of Ester Chapter No. 26, OES, having been Past Matron, District Deputy Grand Matron, and appointed Grand Representative to the State of Indiana. She was active in United Daughters of the Confederacy, having served as President and State Treasurer, Secretary, and a member of the White Shrine. At the time of her death, she and her sister were operating The Peace Flower Shop. Surviving relatives include one sister, Miss Jewell Peace of Leesville; two nephews, Edward Peace of Anacoco, Needham Peace Jr. of Port Neches, Tex.; four nieces, Mrs. Olin Pace Hinson of Plant City, Fla., Mrs. Ennis Leonard from Deer Park, Tex., Mrs. Meldridge Martin of Anacoco, and Mrs. Sarah Pearle Strickland from Beaumont, Tex. She leaves many friends and relatives to mourn her passing. Pallbearers included Warren Foster, Ben Miers, Woodrow Monk, Pete Sliman Jr., and Clyde Self. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Byrd, Dr. Jones, Dr. Broyes, Dr. Trammell, Dr. Norman Booker, and Dr. Trackett, Bob Williamson, Carl Marrow, Ted Paris, Bobby Woods, W. E. Droddy, R. B. McNeely, Charlie Davis, H. C. Newsome, Pete Sliman Sr., and Earl Stitzell. Also, Ford Stewart, J. A. Porter, T. B. Porter, John Chance, J. P. Fisher, R. J. Fertitta, Rose Fertitta, John Craft, Raymond Woods, Robert Smart, Joe Carlock, N. L. Fisher, Curtis Shankle, and W. H. Dowden.
