Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Myrtle Elizabeth Gandy Patrick; one daughter, Jean Elizabeth Patrick Hendrick of Lawton, Okla.; and her children, Robert Addison Hendrick of Moore, Okla., and Elizabeth Stewart Hendrick of Charlottesville, Virginia; and one son, Douglas Morgan Patrick and wife Deanne of Many; and their sons, Steven Timothy Fluitt of Hornbeck, and Jason Daniel Fluitt of Monroe. Also surviving are two great grandchildren, Nikki Renee Fluitt, and Patrick Steven Fluitt of Hornbeck. Mr. Patrick was preceded in death by three brothers, Glen Patrick, Robert Patrick, and Rollie Patrick; and two sisters, Mattie Lee Pass, and Faye Alford. Born in Many, on Dec. 21, 1914, he was one of five children born to Robert Lee Patrick, and Mattie Lee Parrott. His maternal ancestors, early Sabine pioneers, received a Spanish Land Grant in the late 1700's in this area. Raised in Many, he graduated from Rural Alliance School, before joining the basketball team at Northwestern College in Natchitoches. He later transferred to Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where he studied entomology. After working as a salesman in the Insecticide Division of Sherwin-Williams, Mr. Patrick returned to Many, and opened Sabine Seed and Feed. He expanded into the wholesale grocery business, creating Patrick Wholesale, and then founded Patrick-Miller Tractor Company, with W. R. Miller. Today, Patrick's son, Doug, owns and operates the business. During his career, he also owned a cattle farm, where he maintained a herd of registered Angus. Following retirement from the business world in 1973, Mr. Patrick continued in cattle farming. A respected businessman, he was one of the original members of the Sabine River Authority, which initiated the partnership between Louisiana and Texas, to dam up the Sabine River, and create Toledo Bend Reservoir. He was also a charter member of the Sabine Parish Chamber of Commerce, and served on the Sabine Parish School Board. A member of the First Baptist Church of Many, he served on the Building Committee of the present sanctuary, and at one time taught a Men's Sunday School class.
