All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Bessie Mae Powell Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie Mae Skinner Powell, born June 20, 1908, were held Friday, Oct. 8, at 4 p.m., at Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Florien Cemetery. Brother Mack Brister officiated at the services. Funeral services were under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers were Wilmer Powell, Bubba Stephens, Joe Don Powell, Dale Skinner, Jack Goss, and Chelsea Bronson. Mrs. Powell died Thursday, Oct. 7, at Fraser Hospital North, after a long illness. She was 74. Mrs. Bessie Mae Powell had lived in Florien for 40 years. For the past three years, she was a resident of Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Many. Mrs. Powell was a native of Belmont. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Florien. She was also a substitute school teacher, and an Avon representative for many years. Preceded in death by her husband, Walter Powell, and one son, Walter Hubert Powell, Mrs. Powell is survived by two sons, Charlie H. Powell of Houston, Tex., Ted Powell, a U. S. Army S/Sgt., stationed in Calif.; one daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Powell of Houston, Tex.; four sisters, Lela Wright, Belmont, Corrie Phillips, Lake Charles, Dell Brooks, Marval, Tex., Nell Theriot, Lake Charles; one brother, Albert Skinner, Magnolia, Ark.; six grandchildren, Mickey, Jimmy, and Gary Powell, all of San Antonio, Tex., Gay Powell, Natchitoches, Christina Powell, Houston, Tex., Ina Frances Moore, Katy, Tex.; a special niece, Mrs. Mavis Stephens, Belmont; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
