All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Mamie Powell Services for Mrs. Mamie Powell, 99, of Bossier City, were held at 10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 20, at the McGuire Funeral Home Chapel in Vivian, La. The Rev. Gentry, chaplain of Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home officiated. Burial was at Vivian Cemetery. Mrs. Powell, a resident of Bossier City for the past ten years, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1987, at P & S Hospital in Shreveport, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Vivian, La., October 9, 1888, and was a resident most of her life. She was a chief telephone operator, and a founding member of the United Methodist Church in Vivian. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Powell; a son, George Powell; and a daughter, Mina Powell Mitchell. She is survived by one sister, Lessie Lester of Many, La.; six grandchildren, James Earl Powell, Vera Denny, Danny Ray Powell of Kansas, Mary Neal Carter of Grapevine, Texas, Betty Swicegood of Arizona, and Mary Lou King of Bossier City, La.; and a large number of great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Charles White, Dick McMillan, Nathan McDow, Roy Jones, Curley Harrington, David King, Charles King, George Lester, Sam Lester, and Floyd Mitchell.
