Died Monday, August 22, at his home, from a heart attack. A native of Sabine Parish, he was the son of the Rev. and Mrs. Hugh Phillips of Pleasant Hill, a very active member of the Baptist Church, 32nd degree Mason, and employed by Chrysler Corporation in Detroit. Funeral services were held Thursday, August 25, at Kinsey Funeral Home of Royal Oak, Mich. Interment was in Roseland Park Cemetery in Royal Oak. Survivors are his wife, Ruth Phillips of Royal Oak; two sons, Warren Phillips, and Bernard Phillips, both of Detroit; two daughters, Mrs. Howard Surkela, and Mrs. Jack Hurlahe, both of Detroit; his mother, Mrs. Estella Box Phillips of Mansfield; three brothers; the Rev. Orville Phillips of Gloster, Victor Phillips of Bossier City, and Homer Phillips of Pleasant Hill; one sister, Mrs. Windell Reynolds of Mansfield; seven grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews and friends.
