Dr. W. D. "Step" Martin, pastor of the church, officiated. Burial was at Centuries Memorial Park. Plans were under the direction of Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel. Mr. Polk died at 2:30 p.m., Monday, June 4, 1984, at LSU Medical Center, after a short illness. He was born in Mansfield, La., and had been a resident of Shreveport for 32 years. Mr. Polk was a retired crane operator at Mid Continent Steel. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Opal Polk of Shreveport; two sons, Lattie Polk, and Billy Joe Polk of Shreveport; two step sons, Ernie Long of Denver, Colo., and Max Long of Amarillo, Texas; one daughter, Rose Leta Goodwin of Beloit, Wisc.; a step daughter, Barbara Jo Scales of South Africa; two sisters, Ida Mae Hinton of Many, La., and Bessie Roberts of Mansfield, La.; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren. Pallbearers were John N. Pettey, Warren T. Ulmer, Billy Clark, Jerry Fielder, L. W. Stall, and Harry G. King. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Calvary Baptist Church, Shreveport.
