Palmer Sr., 73, died Saturday, Feb. 6, at his residence. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 13, at Bethel Baptist Church, with interment following at Dove Cemetery. The Rev. C. R. Raney officiated. Deacon Willard Douglas Palmer Sr. was the son of the late Rev. William Leander Palmer Sr., and the late Lula McClanahan Palmer. Deacon Palmer was married to Sister Ruby Conley Palmer on September 29, 1946. Deacon Willard Palmer Sr. accepted Christ at an early age, and was baptized by the late Rev. Isaac Williams, at the Crossroad Baptist Church in Crossroad. Deacon Palmer later united with the Bethel Baptist Church of Many, and remained a faithful member until his death. While a member of the Bethel Baptist Church, his affiliations included Director of the Junior Choir, member of the Male Chorus, Church Treasurer, and Chairman of the Deacon Board. Deacon Palmer graduated from Sabine High School He served in the United States Army, with a tour of duty overseas, during World War II. Upon his return, after receiving an Honorable Discharge, he attended Sabine Parish Trade School in Many. Deacon Palmer later retired, with over thirty years of employment with the Sabine Parish School System in Many, Louisiana, as a bus driver. He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted wife, Mrs. Ruby Conley Palmer; his children, Willard Douglas Jr. (Nelwyn) of Many, Kenneth Doyle of Many, Patricia McGrough (Roland) of Humble, Texas, Venetta Maria of Shreveport, Anita Joyce of Many, Marsha Alanethia of Shreveport, Ronald Leo (Evelyn) of Many, and Birdia Palmer Pearson (Ricardo) of DeSoto, Texas. Deacon Willard Palmer Sr. was a loving father who loved all his children. Deacon Palmer is also survived by four sisters, Margaret Lucille Whitted (Gus) of Fort Worth, Texas, Mildred Pollard (Isadoe) of Houston, Texas, Marjorie Covington (Danny) of Columbus, Ga., and Alice Jackson of Kankakee, Ill.; two brothers, Fredrick Palmer of McKinley, Va., and William L. Palmer Jr. (Margaret Jean) of Lake Charles; four aunts, Mrs. Tera Palmer of Many, Mrs. Ola Mae Johnson of Baltimore, Md., Mrs. Rosetta Addison of Baltimore, Md., and Mrs. Mildred McClanahan of Florien; one uncle, Mr. Fred Richardson of Belton, Texas; and a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
