"Joe" Palmer, 90, of Abbeville, were held at the First Baptist Church of Broussard on Tuesday, Dec. 10, with Brother Dan Dufrene officiating. Masonic rites followed in the church, led by Brother James Sprague and his team of Masons from New Iberia. Private burial services followed in Clinton Masonic Cemetery. Mr. Palmer died Sunday, Dec. 8, at East Ridge Nursing Home in Abbeville. A native of Clinton, Mr. Palmer was the son of the late Joseph Edwin Palmer, and the former Mary Helen Keller. He was married to the former Loyce McDonald of Many for the past 62 years. He was employed by an oil exploration company that took him almost over all the United States, parts of Canada, and South America. He was a surveyor and seismologist. He later formed his own surveying company in Many, and did much work in the development of Toledo Bend Lake. Mr. Palmer became a Christian in 1941, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Broussard. He was also a faithful Mason for many years. He is survived by his widow; his son, Joel and wife Andrea of Broussard; and his grandson, Maxwell James Palmer of Broussard; a niece, Kathryn Quine Smith of Cove City, Ark.; a nephew, Lester V. Quine and his wife Louise of Pride; and several great nieces and nephews. Mr. Palmer was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Bernice Quine, Erline Palmer, and Pearl Wilson, all of Baton Rouge, and Sue, and Lovie Palmer of Clinton.
