Ray Penfield, 78, of Leesville, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, in Leesville. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 8, at First Baptist Church in Zwolle, with interment following at Fort Jessup Cemetery in Many. The Rev. Wallace Palmer, Dr. Arnold Nelson, Wade Penefield, Keith Rhodes, and Gil Arthur officiated. The Rev. Penfield was a native of BeBe, South Dakota. He was a WWII veteran, having served 23 years in the U.S. Air Force, and retired a Senior Master Sgt. After retirement from the military, he served as pastor to churches in Sabine, Bienville, Natchitoches, and Vernon Parish, and churches in Alaska, Oregon, and South Dakota. He lived in Leesville for the past 10 years, where he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Leesville, and a Mason. Survivors include his widow, Lois Penfield of Leesville; two sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev. Jerry and Dianne Penfield of Zwolle, and Jimmie and Kathy Penfield of Shreveport; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Weldon Adamson of Fernandina Beach, Fla., and Jeanne and Larry Rhodes of Leesville; seven grandchildren; one granddaughter; and three great grandchildren.
