She spent all of her 89 years living at the old Pentecost home between Florien and Mt. Carmel, except for her recent years in the nursing home. She went to her heavenly home on April 1, 2002. Mamie was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers. She leaves three sisters, Eula Smith of Many, Edna Wallace of Converse, and Mary Burkett of Sabine Parish. Mamie was truly the most wonderful aunt that a host of nephews and nieces, great and great-great, could have had. They all adored her, and she returned all of their loving special ways. Mamie worked as Lunchroom Manager at Mt. Carmel School, and then at Florien. She loved the children she fed, and years after her retirement, many of them still talk about Miss Mamie's "good cooking". Mamie spent most of her life serving others, and especially her Lord. She taught children's Sunday School in her early years, and adults later. She was the Pentecost Family Matriarch, and loved by all. Funeral services for Miss Pentecost will be held on Wednesday, April 3, at 2 p.m., at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Larry DeLoach, and the Rev. Billy Burkett officiating. Burial will be at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Florien. Warren Meadows, Many, La.
