The Rev. Vernon Stephenson officiated. Burial was at Springridge Cemetery near Pleasant Hill. Directions were under the directions of Drewett Funeral Home in Mansfield. He died Saturday morning in Houston, Texas, after a lengthy illness. He was a native of Pleasant Hill, and a veteran of World War II, and the Korean War. He resided in Houston for eight years. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Edna Mae Gates of Channelview, Texas; two daughters, Mrs. Teresa Mae Shadoin of Benson, La., and Joyce Deneen Ponder of Channelview, Texas; four brothers, Lloyd L. Ponder of Natchitoches, Wayne Ponder of Shreveport, Terry Ponder of Midland, Texas, and Leonard Ponder of Bryan, Texas; one grandchild.
