Ponder A retired 1st Circuit Court of Appeals Judge, and a resident of Baton Rouge, he died Sunday, August 4, 1996, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. Visiting was at Green Oaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., at 9 a.m., Tuesday, until religious services in the chapel at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Don McDowell, with Masonic services by Capitol Lodge No. 3991 F&AM. Interment was in Green Oaks Memorial Park. Judge Ponder was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and a sister. He is survived by his wife, Marie Ponder of Baton Rouge; three sons, Michael, Warren, and Donald Ponder; three daughters-in-law, Jennie, Suzan, and Suzanne; two sisters, Sylvia P. Early, and Yvonne Virdum; two brothers, Merlin and Deward Ponder; eight grandchildren, Casey, Kelly, Katey, Stuart, Elizabeth, Ashley, Holly, and Donald Jr. He was 82, a native of Pleasant Hill, and a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a graduate of LSU Law School, and a member of Capitol Lodge No. 3991 F&AM, Royal Order of Scotland, and 32nd Degree Rites of F&AM. Pallbearers were Michael Cascio, Johnny Christ, Albert Harris, L. J. Hymel, Joseph (Beau) Olinde, and J. W. Sessions. Honorary pallbearers were 1st Court of Appeals Judges, Charlie Hardison, Bill Doran, Tickie Saia, Vernon Dupree, Malcolm Ballard, Andre C. Broussard, Arnold Chauviere, Mike Baren, and members of Capitol Lodge No. 3991 F&AM. The family requests memorials be made to Shriners Hospitals for Crippled Children, Samford Avenue and Kings Highway, Shreveport, La. 71103.
