Parker Funeral services for Andrew Martin Parker, 75, a member of an old Sabine Parish family, were held at Central Baptist Church, Sunday, Sept. 22. Dr. James E. Carter, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Natchitoches, officiated. Mr. Parker died in the Veteran's Hospital, Big Springs, Texas, having been a resident of Midland, Texas for many years. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Dorothy Parker, Midland; two sons, both former residents of Many, Gene Parker, Oxnard, Calif., and Mishad, Iran, Gordan Parker, Anchorage, Alaska; five brothers, J. Curtis, Natchitoches, Claude, Monroe, and Aubrey, Lake Charles, and Rhese, Sulphur; and two sisters, Mrs. Ruby Cheney, Corpus Christi, Texas, and Mrs. Maude McVea, Austin, Texas. Pallbearers were Leon Mitchell, John Varnado, Tom Smith, Many; Edwin Stoker, M. L. Green, Frank Harris, George Rucker, Natchitoches; and Deloy Ross, Leesville. Mr. Parker was retired in 1962 from the Mobil Oil Co. He was active in civic affairs, having been a past president of International Toastmasters in Midland. He was also instrumental in the Dale Carnegie Institute, throughout West Texas and New Mexico. He was also a Shriner. Mr. Parker was considered an authority on the life of Abraham Lincoln. He lectured to large audiences on the life of the former president for many years, throughout West Texas and New Mexico. He had traveled extensively in Illinois, Washington, D. C., and other states, gathering factual information of Mr. Lincoln.
