Prudhomme, his girlfriend, Velma Rambin of Mansfield, and his brother, William T. Prudhomme, were swimming and boating at the landing, when the incident occurred. According to reports, Prudhomme and Miss Rambin were sitting on the rear of a boat at the landing, when he decided to go for a swim. The lady told officers he waded a short way from the shore, and then went under. Assuming that he was playing, she watched him, and then saw him come up again and struggle. She started out after Prudhomme, but the landing owner pulled her back and another unidentified boy plunged into the water after the man. Sabine Parish Deputy John Rainer was summoned to the scene, but attempts to recover the body failed. Prudhomme's body was later discovered about 20 feet from shore by Louisiana State Trooper, Lee Raymond Isgitt of the Water Patrol Division. Funeral services were held on Sunday, June 12, at the Drewett Memorial Chapel. Burial was in the Catholic Cemetery in Frierson. Surviving are five brothers, John B. Prudhomme, W. L. Prudhomme, and William Terry Prudhomme, all of Bryceland, Donald Prudhomme of Keithville, and Troy Prudhomme of Texarkana, Ark.; and two sisters, Mrs. Ida Mae Giddens of Bryceland, and Mrs. Louise Hubbard of Coushatta.
