All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** George Henri Rivers Airman Apprentice George Henri Rivers, 17, of Pleasant Hill, died Monday, Oct 2, at 4:11 a.m. Airman Rivers was found in his room in the airman Bachelor Quarters at Pensacola Naval Airbase, critically ill. An ambulance was called, but by the time he arrived at the hospital he passed away. Rivers joined the Navy on Aril 26 of this year, and was attending the Naval School of Photography at the time of his death. Cause of death is believed to be a hypo-sensitivity that resulted as a side effect of something he had eaten or drank in conflict with medication that had been prescribed for him by Navy doctors. An autopsy was performed Tuesday, but the findings were incomplete at press time. The body is to arrive at Warren Meadows Funeral Home Thursday evening, Oct. 5, and will lay in state there until services are held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 6. Full Military rites will be held in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Survivors include his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. George W. (Jack) Rivers; a brother, Gary; two sisters, Gloria and Jackie; his paternal grandparents, Geo. W. Rivers, Sr., and Mrs. Ethel English Rivers, all of Pleasant Hill; maternal grandparents, M. Gaston C. Barbey, and Helen Barbey, both of France; his step-grandmother, Mrs. Tulsa Ott of Pleasant Hill, and numerous friends and relatives. Airman Rivers attended Pleasant Hill High School most of his life, is a member of St. Terrence Catholic Church of Pleasant Hill; and he was an active member of all youth activities in the various other local churches.
